The MMA-500 is a stick welding machine for manual metal arc work on mild steel. MMA remains the process of choice where conditions are against you: it tolerates wind, surface rust and mill scale far better than gas-shielded processes, and it needs nothing on site beyond electrodes and a power supply.
Stick welding earns its place on structural repair, plant maintenance and site fabrication, where the work is outdoors, awkwardly positioned, or too dirty to justify wire feed. Electrode choice does most of the work: general purpose rutile rods for clean fillets, basic low-hydrogen rods where the joint carries load.
